In 1998 we created a Technology Centre Research, Development and Innovation: R&D Olaker. Currently there are 16 technicians working full time, most of them ingeniers. The Research activity of Olaker is mainly based in two areas:

MECHANICS:
Based mainly in the study of power transmission elements.
PLASTICS:
Dedicated to the Research and Development in two fields: Transformation of Plastic and Spraying. Olaker is accredited as a Scientific Technological body integrated in the Basque Science, Technology and innovation network.

MECHANICS:
This area works in the study and analysis of power transmission elements using friction or cam mechanisms.

For this purpose, Olaker uses the following tools:
- Solid Edge and ideas Master Series, for the design of pieces in 3D and 2D.
- Ideas Simulation, for the structural static, dynamic and thermal calculations.
- Equipment for processing and analyzing data obtained from test machinery.
- Equipment for fabricating prototypes
- Test machinery to study the performance of power transmission elements.
- Fatigue test and application simulation machines.


PLASTICS:

Olaker offers customers a complete and integral service covering the study and analysis of three main factors affecting the optimal transformation process:
- Design of the piece
- Design of the pattern
- Injection parameters
It uses specific analysis and design tools including:
- Solid Edge and Ideas Master Series, for the design of pieces in 3D and 2D
- Ideas Simulation, for conducting structural calculations
- Mold flow, for reologic analysis

In addition, Olaker has machinery which allows the research into complex applications
- Machine tools to produce prototypes
- Injection machinery for testing and moulding validation
In the pulverization field, Olaker analyses the definition of geometrical shapes of nozzles to optimize pulverization parameters.
To analyze and develop the best geometry of each application, Olaker uses:
- Solid Edge and Ideas master series for creating the 3D geometry
- Fluent for simulating flows inside the nozzle



To validate the results, the following controls are used:
- Laser machine to measure pulverization drop dimensions
- Microscope with digital camera to measure and control nozzle geometry
- Pulverization ramp to measure and control flow, angle and pulverization distribution.
